Want answers? Write it out
When’s the last time you wrote? As in a letter, journal, email (not for business!) or birthday card. Like really writed. Some true feelings.
I write to you, but I also write to myself on occasion about things no one knows about. It’s typically when I’m trying to sort things out to gain clarity and resolution for myself.
The benefit of the written word is to feel better. Often it is a way for us to let out the things that can be stuck inside. We are often in our heads so pen to paper is a fundamental part of a healing and peaceful journey.
Whether or not you decide to send the letter or share the content, is up to you. But there has been many times that I have read out what I’ve written to someone I cared about, in order to articulate my point. Sometimes the verbal explanation just doesn’t come out right, or we end up on another road we didn’t intend to go down.
So if you have some confusion about a topic, I urge you to try writing it out. Like Judy Blume wrote many many years ago, ‘Are you there God, it’s me Margaret.’
Write to yourself, your God, your partner. Whoever needs to hear you. Sometimes you don’t end up sending or sharing. But man you can feel so good after.
There’s a lot of information out there. This time, tap into your own brilliance. Write from your heart. It’s like - dance like no one is watching. Write, like no one else is reading. See what’s under your hood - you might just impress yourself. Because no one but you has the answers to your inner domain.
“Write hard and clear about what hurts.” – Ernest Hemingway
“Writing is a way of talking without being interrupted.” - Jules Renard
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” – William Wordsworth
