Hello there,
Well, my mom and I finally closed up the cabin, which inspired this inSight!
I love it at the lake in the fall. It’s so calm, peaceful and beautiful. Last nights of campfires and cleaning up around the place. Trimming trees, gathering and chopping firewood for next year, putting boats away and winterizing sinks/toilets!
We do it every year and each time is a little different. Because we’re different.
We cheered 🥂 to another great summer. These times with my mom are precious to me. I’m still learning from her and about her. We share like friends and it's fun to see her as a person, not just a mother.
Sunday morning I laid cozily in my cabin bed. It was so quiet. No sounds of boats, people walking the back trail, barking dogs or generators running like in the busy summer months. As I laid there I allowed my thoughts to run. Memories of the summer, things I’m looking forward to and things I’m working on within.
I’m so often learning about what other people know, that I need time like this to sort out what I know. It’s also a time to listen. Without the distractions of the world, I’m able to hear.
I do this in my home in Calgary too. Mornings in my bed. But there’s something about nature and water that easily calms my nervous system. Our environment really does impact how we feel.
When’s the last time you just laid in bed and allowed yourself the time to listen? To be present to what’s going on within you? Or to leave your regular world behind for a while and take in and feel the beauty of nature?
I’m going to ask you to linger in bed a little longer next time you can. Leave your phone alone. Keep your eyes closed. What comes up? Probably lots of things, like me.
Let thoughts come up without judging them or yourself. No need to do anything with it. No need to analyze it or figure anything out. Just be with yourself. Listen to yourself. You have a lot to say. Give yourself the undivided attention you just might be craving.
All my love,
Kristi 💛
