You hear this all the time… don’t care what other people think… well that's totally up to you, but here’s a new perspective on that.
During my ‘reprogramming’ days, I had a post-it on my fridge for a week from Wayne Dyer. “The good opinions of others are none of my business.” I liked it, it resonated. And oh has it helped!
One morning recently after meeting someone for the first time, I thought, how did this person make me feel? And it dawned on me that this is what we need to care about. It really didn’t matter to me what he thought about what I wore, or if I said the right thing. If he liked me or if he didn’t. I wondered, how did I feel being around him?
So instead of worrying about what other people think, could you care about how other people make you feel?
From there you’ll be guided to keep the right people around you and let the other people go. I was reminded why it’s easy for me not to judge. When I feel good around someone, so much stops mattering. I can feel when someone likes me. Likely if you feel good, so do they. This is what we’re all looking for. Acceptance, belonging, connection.
I guess this ties into the famous quote by the wonderful Maya:
“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” ― Maya Angelou
