What is love anyway?

Hey hey!

So my new best friend and I were driving back from Invermere and began talking about love and what it even is. He opened my view on how love is actually a verb. An action we take. Here’s my written take away:

Love - is a verb. Yet we ‘love’ for the feeling of it. Of course, it does produce a feeling, but it’s more than that.

Do you know why/how you get the feeling? It’s only in giving love that you feel it. So how do you give love? It is just that - giving. You give it to them. What they want, what makes them smile. Your time, attention, respect, your body, your soul. We give these things.

And not so we can get, but so that we can feel.

How do you give your love? Are you stingy with it? Are you waiting to be loved before you give love? They say what you give, you get back tenfold. You don’t give to get though. You give because it’s a natural tendency of your heart. You can’t make yourself love. And you can’t make someone love you. So it’s a very precious thing.

Love is an openness, an expansion. You can’t love fully with a closed heart. And you won’t be open for love if you are closed. And there are many reasons we might be closed. If you are closed, you just need to heal. More on that next week!

Give some thought about how you love. Talk to others about what they think and what their experiences have been. It’s a funny thing, love. But so so very important and delicious.

As a Course in Miracles (Marianne Williamson) suggests - Only what you are not giving can be lacking in any situation.

PS. I actually wrote an inSight on this similar topic a while back. Here’s the link if you want to read it.

I am an energetic gal who is captivated by the human condition. I believe in exploring all life experiences to learn and grow. Throughout my 20+ years of studying and learning to love and accept myself - no matter what, I have come to realize that there is no ‘right’ path or way to experience life, other than head on, with accountability, a sense of humor and lightness, and a knowing that only I can create my own reality. And this is true for everyone. You create your own reality. Let me help you get to yours!
